Beaches Near Sykia Halkidiki: Klimataria, Tourkolimnionas, Kalamitsi & More (2026)
Sithonia's best-kept secret isn't one beach — it's an entire coastline. The southeastern side, around Sykia, has more than ten beaches within a 15-minute radius: from organised sandy bays with beach bars to coves that in September you'll have entirely to yourself.
All distances below are measured from Sykia village — which is also where Amira House is. Let's go from nearest to farthest.
The map at a glance
For quiet: Klimataria & Pigadaki on weekdays, Kriaritsi always.
The most beautiful (according to locals): Tourkolimnionas — golden sand and pines down to the water.
For full comfort: Sarti — 4 km of sand with tavernas and beach bars.
Sykia Beach & Linaraki — the village's bay (~3 km)
Sykia's wide open bay is "home": a long sandy beach with light organisation, tavernas behind the sand and a straight view of Mount Athos. The Linaraki section, towards the southern end, is the local favourite — fine sand and water that deepens gently.
- Distance from the village: ~3 km, a 4-6 minute drive.
- Facilities: Sunbeds in sections, large free stretches. Tavernas and a beach bar in season.
- Parking: Spacious, unpaved, free — you'll find a spot even in August.
- Best for: Families, the everyday swim, a sunset drink. The "default" beach for anyone staying in Sykia.
Klimataria — the cove with the taverna (~4 km)
At the edge of Sykia bay hides Klimataria: a small, quiet beach with trees almost down to the sand and a classic family taverna right on the water — the kind where you eat fresh fish with your feet in the sand.
- Distance: ~4 km, a 6-7 minute drive.
- Facilities: Minimal — a few sunbeds belonging to the taverna, otherwise a natural beach.
- Best for: Anyone after the swim + taverna combination without crowds. With small kids, the natural tree shade is a blessing.
- Local tip: If you're looking for accommodation near Klimataria beach, Sykia village is 6 minutes away — you stay somewhere alive and have the cove "to yourself" every morning.
Pigadaki — the quiet in-between (~5 km)
South of the bay, small and calm, with pebble-and-sand and deep blue water. You'll rarely see crowds — most people drive past it chasing the famous names, and that's exactly its strength.
- Distance: ~5 km, 7-8 minutes.
- Facilities: None or minimal — bring water and an umbrella.
- Best for: Couples, snorkelling, book readers.
Kriaritsi — the wild sandy stretch (~7 km)
A long, open beach with dunes and low vegetation — the "wildest" landscape in the area. The water gets deep quickly and there's often a little surf, which older kids love.
- Distance: ~7 km, 10 minutes.
- Facilities: None along most of its length — freedom and space even in mid-August.
- Best for: Anyone who wants space, natural scenery and zero beach-bar music.
Tourkolimnionas — the locals' favourite (~8 km)
Ask ten locals for the most beautiful beach in the area and half will say Tourkolimnionas. Golden sand, pines reaching almost to the water, and shades of blue you won't believe are Greece and not the Caribbean. Two neighbouring coves — pick whichever is emptier.
- Distance: ~8 km, 11-12 minutes (the last stretch is a dirt road, fine for all cars with a little care).
- Facilities: A beach bar with sunbeds in season on one cove, the other one free.
- Best for: Everyone — but go in the morning in August, it fills up.
- Local tip: Looking for accommodation near Tourkolimnionas beach? Sykia is the natural base — 12 minutes away, with a living village for your evenings.
Kalamitsi — the double bay (~9 km)
One of the most photogenic corners of the south: two horseshoe-shaped sandy beaches separated by a rocky tongue, with pool-like water. The big side is organised with a beach bar and water sports, and there's a well-known diving centre next door — one of the best places in northern Greece for a first dive.
- Distance: ~9 km, 12-13 minutes.
- Facilities: Full on the main beach (sunbeds, beach bar, sports), freer on the small one.
- Best for: Families (shallow, sandy), diving, beach volley.
- Local tip: For accommodation near Kalamitsi beach without the prices and limited options of the tiny settlement, most people base themselves in Sykia and drive down in 12 minutes.
Sarti — the 4 kilometres of sand (~9 km north)
The grande dame of the east coast: a huge sandy beach facing Mount Athos, full facilities, tavernas, beach bars and a seafront stroll. When you want the "full package" day — swim, lunch, coffee, ice cream for the kids — this is where you come.
- Distance: ~9 km, 10 minutes.
- Best for: Families, big groups, days when you feel like some buzz.
Day trips: Kavourotrypes & Karydi
Sithonia's two stars are well worth the short drive from Sykia:
- Kavourotrypes (Orange Beach) — 16.8 km, 18 minutes: the famous white rocks and 6 coves.
- Karydi (Vourvourou) — 37.5 km, 41 minutes: Halkidiki's most photographed shallow sandy bay.
Where to stay near these beaches
The clever thing about southeastern Sithonia: you don't have to pick one beach to stay next to. Based in Sykia village, all of the above — Klimataria, Tourkolimnionas, Kriaritsi, Kalamitsi, Sarti — are within a 4-13 minute drive, and every day you choose based on the wind, your mood and the crowds.
Amira House, our stone-built holiday house with a garden, BBQ and parking, is exactly that base — 5 minutes from the first swim. More on accommodation options in the area: Accommodation in Sykia Halkidiki.
